NEW DELHI: The Uttar Pradesh government today said it will establish a new international airport in the NCR region at Jewar near Greater Noida.
Announcing the state government decision, Uttar Pradesh Food and Civil Supplies Minister Kamal Akhtar said, "The Uttar Pradesh government will establish a new international airport at Jewar. And the construction will commence as soon as we get all required approvals and clearances from the Centre."
Speaking at the Credai Annual Conclave 2015, Akhtar said that whatever the formalities and documentation required to be done at the state government level that would be completed in the next 15-30 days.
Last week replying to a question in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma had said that the Centre has received a request from the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister for construction of a greenfield airport at Jewar.
However, Government of Uttar Pradesh needs to submit a complete updated proposal in accordance with the Greenfield Airport Policy of 2008, Sharma added.
This could be the third international airport in the NCR region, as Centre had granted site clearance to Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC), for setting up of a greenfield airport for public use near Bhiwadi in Alwar district of Rajasthan in November this year.
