The Kannur International Airport in Kerala will be ready for trials by December next year. Commercial operations are expected to begin five months later in May, 2016.
Minister for Excise, Ports and Civil Aviation K Babu told mediapersons here that the passenger terminal building facility at the integrated terminal will run into 75,000 sq ft.
Passenger facilities
The domestic and international terminals will be able to handle up to 2,000 passengers during peak hours. The terminal will feature 48 check-in counters; 32 emigration counters; and 16 escalators.
Other passenger facilities include duty-free shops, pedestrian bridges, and a road linking the terminal building with the car park.
Land acquisition
According to the Minister, 1,843.18 acres of land have been acquired for the project. The third phase of the land acquisition is now in the final stages.
L&T had won the tender for development of the runway and work on the airside for ₹498.69 crore. As on date, 10 per cent of the work has been completed.
Aecom Asia is the integrated project consultancy for the project and Kitco for the terminal building. Green building concept is being employed for designing the airport project.
